MicroProse's Magic: The Gathering PC game
Introduction / Setup
This section of my personal site was designed due to an addiction to the original MtG computer game released in 1997 which can be downloaded upon Request from this site. I have mirrored the simple installation instructions.
Here are the deck archives:
Place deck files in the Playdeck folder to use it. Some of the older decks that I wrote by hand will not open in the deck editor, but they will function for a duel. I will fix this at some point.
I am keeping a list of cards that don't appear to work in this game. If you have figured out how to make them work, or if you have a deck that you would like to add to this collection, email me at divinentd@gmail.com.
Known Bugs
- In Shalandar when purchasing cards in a town hit the "y" key for yes or the "n" key for no. The buttons do not appear.
- The deck editor appears to be incompatible with Logitech mice. There are a few options. You can read about possible solutions in the nt compatible forum, you can edit the decks in the Playdecks folder by hand (won't help with Shalandar) or you can uninstall the mouse/trackball.
- In the Shalandar game when you have a random encounter all the dialogue does not always appear.
If you run into any other bugs and/or bug fixes drop me an email or leave a comment in the blog.
Windows XP
If you're running Windows XP and have been having trouble getting MicroProse's Magic: The Gathering PC game to work check out the Updated Windows XP Instructions on my installation instructions page.
ManaLink
Want to play MtG over a LAN? Bill Roth from Michigain wrote out some helpful ManaLink Connection Instructions. Note: not recommended over an open network, as one of the steps includes turning off your firewall.
Syndication
I'll be the first to admit that deck posting can be rather sporatic around here. So if you want to be updated when I post to the Blog subscribe to my feed:
If you have no idea what I'm talking about go to bloglines.com and check it out. It will change the way you read the web.
Favorite Decks
The deck archives, not to mention the blog archives, are rather extensive, but some decks are more powerful or more fun to play than the others. So I'll take a minute here to highlight a few of my favorite decks to play, and why I like them.
- Sedge Mine

Posted on June 05, 2005- My most ruthless deck. I love playing denial decks (both land and card). This deck is the culmination of my desire to stunt my opponent's ability to build, and then stomp on them while they're down. The spells are low-cost and powerful. The combinations and themes work in synergy. The only card that is of dubious value by itself is Relic Barrier, but it often proves to be crippling against Type I decks, tapping that crucial mox during the opponent's upkeep. Play with this deck, not against it.
- Old Man Wolf

Posted on April 18, 2005 - Edge of What?

Posted on December 17, 2004 - This is the deck that got me hooked on Type 1.5.
- Blue Skies

Posted on May 05, 2005 - How cute. Little flying creatures. Only those little flying creatures will kick your ass while you're stuck on the ground waiting to get over the Moat. Be sure to read the blog post for an explanation for the use of the Castle card.
- Whatnaut
Posted on June 16, 2005 - Most big-fast decks generate a bunch of mana in order to summon some huge creature. This deck's a little stranger than that. It uses big mana combos to pull out the versatile Triskelion, or whipe their hand with Amnesia. It does have a touch of fast-large-creature (Juggernaut) but it's also got counterspelling and card denial. Basically, it's a deck that can be played far more effectively by a human player than a computer.
